General / spammers
« on: December 20, 2011, 06:59:12 PM »
We get a goddamn crazy amount of requests for forum access from flagged spammers. Some 1-5% of these may be actual people. (Clock's email was flagged, for example, for some reason, and he couldn't access the forums until I manually found and approved him)

I've been trying to be a little more lenient with addresses that *might* be real, but you've seen a couple spammers get through as a result.

Any thoughts for improvements? I've taken to simply sitebanning the entire IP range for spam IP's I see with the same first 3 numbers (xx.xx.xx.* bans)... this might be too heavy handed, but I'm getting tired of rejecting 200 forum requests a day or more for a forum averaging less than 3-4 posts a day...

Star Wars: The Old Republic / Dev Chat 12/14/11 chatlog

A few interesting things... most of it is pretty boilerplate. The bit about nightmare difficulty operations was news to me, and some "we're going to do what WoW does" regarding future PvP.

If their content rollout and pvp options remain similar to what wow did, just at a faster timeline, with a few innovations, I'll be pretty happy.

Star Wars: The Old Republic / SWTOR guide for the Wow Player via Torhead

Mostly accurate. Useful. Note that Legendary is NOT orange. Currently Orange means 'customizable' (has slots that can be modified)

Also note www.torhead.com is going to be the new wowhead. E.g. the most accurate (probably) place to look crap up.

News / SWTOR Launch: RI rolls on Jung Ma PvP-RP (EST) server as Empire.
« on: December 12, 2011, 07:20:32 PM »
Long Live our Sith Overlords. W00t.

RI will be rolling EMPIRE on the JUNG MA as-of dec 13th (there's a chance it won't be last alphabetical the whole time as they open new servers)

Message Cardis, Stari, Xoul or Dysent for an invite to the guild - it's up and *cough* Rolling...   8) :P

Do NOT level your toon through the autoinvite from guild registration on Bondar Crystal. (though there's no harm in accepting the invite and leaving an alt there) We'll post a guild message on that server to notify people of the proper server. We are not using that server because it is PvP and we'd prefer to use PvP-RP. (an issue in the system prevented guilds from being given a pvp-rp server for autoassignment)

edit: Added server name. - Xoul

General / Old Forums - backed up at all?
« on: December 11, 2011, 07:32:36 PM »
Xythe,

Did you happen to save any of the old forum threads? A bunch of people were saying they wish they could have saved things that had been posted there  (generally non-wow-related), and even things like the recruitment format, etc, would be valuable.

Any chance you backed these up and they could be reinserted into the WoW subforums?

Star Wars: The Old Republic / Force Alignment
« on: November 28, 2011, 07:53:40 PM »
So I had originally wanted to play neutral as Operative, and maybe even if I go Assassin, but like...

It seems like you get screwed if you go neutral. A lot of the better items continue to have force alignment restrictions that increase as levels go by. I've seen just about nothing that requires neutral...

I'm looking around for better info, but haven't had much luck - there's a lot of old or bad info out there in the interwebs.

Star Wars: The Old Republic / 11.28.11 test weekend thread
« on: November 27, 2011, 12:57:01 PM »
So I ran operative thru to level 16. I wound up absolutely in love with the feel of the class when I was playing agent... EXCEPT for the cover mechanic. Being forced to stay in place all the time drove me apeshit. Switching to Operative made me very happy... I need to do some examination of the operative-vs-sniper endgame dps tho'... I'm a little worried that because it's a hybrid, operative will suffer a dps tax, and thus suck. I'm likely to go powertech BH if I don't go Operative, tho'. I wish I'd had more time - I would run that through a bit to see how I liked it.

Pvp as operative was fun-but-weak at low levels. Before melee get many snares and evasion talents, life is tough in pvp. There's no diminishing returns on CC chains, either... was a bit of a rude awakening when I figured that out :D

The storyline of the game was freaking awesome, and the flashpoints made the three of us laugh a bunch at eachothers' responses - was great. Very nicely executed flavor.

Overally pleased. Beta had obvious beta issues that we hope get fixed. Some serious balance issues in crafting form what I could tell (slicing seems way too good, for example). That stuff still has time to get fixed, though we're close to R-day.

I guess I shouldn't worry so much and just play what I like, since, after all, I'm in Japan so I won't be raiding or anything :P
